Meet our guest, Emmanuel Mbir, a tech titan, and one of Africa’s very best. Today’s episode is going to be an in-depth discussion about software development and software engineering – what it’s all about and how to get started, whether you’re a beginner or somebody who is already in the niche.
Emmanuel will share with us how he started learning coding on his phone using an app, and continued to do so even after starting university. He submitted all his coding assignments on his phone. He believes that it depends on the mentality of the individual. He also shared his idea of rebranding education, making good policies, and providing funding sources for everyone to benefit from. He doesn’t think that AI is taking away jobs, as it can only do what it is programmed to do.
As a tech person, he believes that there are five key buckets in life that you should focus on: knowledge, skills, network, resources, and reputation. You should follow these buckets in a sequential order from 1 to 5. While it’s possible to refill buckets 1 to 4, it’s difficult to refill bucket number 5, which is your reputation. Destroying your reputation can make it challenging to rebuild it. However, you can always learn new skills, gain more knowledge, network with more people, and build up your resources.
